A theology steeped in Christian action and service.

In this stirring collection of sermons, Henry Sloane Coffin, one of the great elder statesmen of American Christianity in the early 20th century, presents a theology steeped in Christian action and service.

Throughout he teaches how Jesus, in his personhood and divinity, is the final example by which all believers are to model their lives and actions around in order to collectively advance God’s will and change the world.

Coffin helped the Church adapt to the rapid social and industrial changes that swept across early 1900s America. As such, his prose reflects a social consciousness and commitment to uplift people from all classes of society.

As the challenges of modernization have only increased with time, Coffin’s lessons are just as valuable today. His thought-provoking insights encourage an active faith and a service-oriented and other-focused Christianity that is willing to bestow God’s blessings to the world.

Originally published in 1907, this version includes an updated design and additional notes to aid readers in further study.
