God’s Been Faithful by Tom Wilson

The word “mercies” here shows the love that God has for His people.

It also conveys the relationship that God has with His people. A relationship that a father has with His children. A love that only a father would know.

With this kind of love a father will lay down his life to protect his children.

A father will pray for his children; he will take the punishment over seeing his children be punished. A father will do anything he can to see his children through hard times.

“God, our Father, is Who we need to turn to in times of trouble. He will keep us steadfast and will be faithfully awake and alert by our side. He loves us that much.”

The Psalmist wrote “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.” (Ps. 121:1-3)

God, our Father, is Who we need to turn to in times of trouble. He will keep us steadfast and will be faithfully awake and alert by our side. He loves us that much.

Going back to Lamentations 3:22 we see that God has compassion for us. He has a concern, not just a love, for our misfortunes and sufferings.

God just doesn’t stand by and love us, He takes an interest in what’s going on in our lives. He is involved.

Verse 23 tells us that God’s love and compassion are renewed every morning.

Just to think that every morning you wake up, after a nights sleep, God is right there with you with the same amount of love and compassion He had the day before – nothing else compares to that.

Then the author says, “great is Thy faithfulness.” God is secure and reliable in all that He has promised.

One time, a friend of mine introduced me to a song made famous by The Mark Trammell Quartet and written by Dianne Wilkinson and Scott Inman called “God’s Been Faithful.”

At the time my friend was fighting cancer and he told me it helped him through some difficult times.

I started singing this song at church because it has such a great message of God’s faithfulness to His children.“God just doesn’t stand by and love us, He takes an interest in what’s going on in our lives. He is involved.”

However, I never really caught the emotion that should come upon you when you hear a song like this.

To me it was just another song to try and help other people in their time of need.

Recently though, I had to get back surgery in my lower back. I basically spent the first two weeks after the surgery laying and recuperating and healing.

This gave me a lot of time to think about God and His faithfulness and to think about that song. The lyrics to the second verse say:

Through the years He’s been my unfailing Friend

Every longing, satisfied

On the mountain high, through the desert dry

He’s brought me through my trials every time

God’s been faithful, He’s been faithful

No matter the struggle, whatever my need

In my darkest hour, there’s healing power

God’s been faithful, faithful to me.

God is faithful.

These words and God’s promises in Lamentations 3:22-23 should mean everything to us.

They should make us jump for joy. They should entice us to want to do more for Him and to trust Him more and more.

God has brought me through a very serious surgery. I now put my trust in Him to be faithful through my recovery.

Remember, no matter the struggle you are facing, God is faithful.
